Porada, wood between past and design

Porada, the passion for wood between the past and innovation

Natural, sinuous, elegant, wood is a precious and timeless material that can give warmth to rooms. A timeless symbol of craftsmanship of the highest order, has become a protagonist in interior design in recent years, juxtaposed with modern, more ‘cool’ materials such as metal, glass, and marble. Hypnotic wood grain thus meets marble grain, metal reflections and transparencies.

Our country, a temple of craftsmanship excellence, is a master at turning logs into works of art. Stories of genius and high-end carpentry that cross generations, just as happened to
Porada
, the company founded in 1968 by Luigi Allievi in Cabiate, in the Como area, with the intention of continuing the chair production he had undertaken in 1948.

Excellence in quality and experience in woodworking have quickly given it a solid, well-defined identity that now finds expression in elegant products that help define the domestic landscape. The key that has allowed the company to successfully establish itself in international markets is undoubtedly the great ability to find the right balance between form and function in each object, along with an evolved and modern taste that is at the same time sober and essential for pieces destined to last.

In their furniture you can feel the mastery of gestures that create objects with an evolved taste but essential lines. Collections made and designed for those who love the art and philosophy of wood, which grasp the new trends and needs of living and define spaces in a refined way, with measure and sobriety, realizing a living style that is timeless and beyond passing fashions.

A work that in half a century has managed to turn the founder’s dream into reality, thanks in part to collaboration with designers such as Marconato and Zappa, Carlo Ballabio, Staffan Tollgard, Patrick Jouin, David Dolcini, Emmanuel Gallina, Stefano Bigi, Gino Carollo, Tarcisio Colzani, Studio Opera, Dainelli Studio and Studio Buratti.

Infinity, the sculpture table signed by designer Stefano Bigi

A technically advanced project is that of Infinity, the coffee table signed by designer Stefano Bigi in 2009, which gives the simplicity of materials such as steel, crystal and wood the nobility of forms of a work of art. Wood, preferably solid, great attention to formal details, but under the banner of essentiality.  The coffee table appears as a sculpture in which the warmth of Canaletto walnut, expertly shaped, acts as a link between two elements that thus lose that sense of coldness to which they are usually combined. The base is made of chrome-plated metal, the top of tempered glass (10 mm thick for the coffee table). In between, a sinuous chase of soft lines that call to mind images of a tender embrace stretching toward infinity.

Ella, the iconic seat inspired by Japanese design

Elegant, soft in form, and with a retro attitude, Ella, created by designer Patrick Jouin for Porada, is a chair with armrests and frame and seat in solid canaletta walnut with differentiated-density rubber padding, plywood inner support, and upholstery in precious textures. The designer was inspired by the solidity of Japanese and American wooden furniture to create this chair that stands out for the simplicity of its lines, the sinuous shape of the armrests, and the comfort of the seat. Because of this attention to detail, it is a perfect chair for furnishing the most elegant environments.

Sam, the multitasking servant that furnishes like a work of art

Transformative, multitasking and with essential forms, Sam, the solid walnut Canaletta servant created by designer Carlo Ballabio for Porada, is a practical ally in the bedroom for neatly storing clothing and objects. Equipped with a hanger, trouser rack, emptying tray with pivoting mirror, and seat upholstered in fabrics from the collection. With the exception of the seat, the various elements are interchangeable with each other.

Allison, the iconic two-seater sofa

It is a strongly retro inspiration that characterizes the Allison two-seater sofa by Porada, a signature piece designed by Andrea Borgogni in 2016. The finely molded exposed frame is made of solid walnut canaletta, mocha-stained or wenge-stained wood, and is the result of skilled craftsmanship. The ample padding is complemented by two soft down back cushions. Upholstery is available in the range of fabrics in the collection. A sofa that finds its place in both classic and contemporary settings.

Maskara coiffeuse, the vanity corner designed by Emmanuel Gallina

It is every woman’s dream to own a vanity corner in the home, a dressing table behind which to sit and look in the mirror, apply makeup and comb her hair. When this then, becomes a design icon like the Maskara coiffeuse designed by Emmanuel Gallina, it is impossible not to covet it. This furniture has solid ash frame stained mocha, stained canaletta walnut, stained wenge and marble top, available in Calacatta white gold or Emperador Dark brown, with central storage drawer. The adjustable mirror has a brass frame, and the wooden drawer is available in finishes to match the toilet frame.
