Michael Anastassiades is a Cyprus-born and London-based designer whose practice encompasses products, spatial interventions and experimental works, often transcending distinctions between different fields of creativity. Anastassiades’ practice contemplates both industrial production and craft techniques. In doing so, he expands in a vivid and nuanced balance between improvisation and structure, control and intuition. With a career spanning more than 20 years, Anastassiades has conceived lights, furniture and objects characterized by a poetic yet rigorous interpretation of technology, materials and function. His work draws inspiration from many sources, which he distills into pure and simple structures. From nature to archaic references in his native Cyprus, to the history of Modernism, to personal memories, to art and everyday life, Anastassiades transforms a rich set of diverse references into a vocabulary of timeless forms and structures.
