HERMAN MILLER

Herman Miller, a West Michigan businessman purchased an existing furniture manufacturing company, the Michigan Star Furniture Company, founded in 1905, in 1923, giving it his own name. With this choice he wanted from the very beginning to convey his moral principles of honesty, quality and fairness within the fledgling American company. By the mid-twentieth century, Herman Miller had already achieved major milestones in design , becoming a world leader and boasting distinguished collaborations with George Nelson and such illustrious names as Charles and Ray Eames. These encounters resulted in iconic pieces for the design world, which are still on display in major museums and for sale in top design stores around the world.
