Cassina Furniture, quality and authenticity in home furnishings
Cassina Furniture is an eclectic and cosmopolitan company that has worked for years within the various areas of the home furnishing industry.
Since the beginning, Cassina has collaborated with the greatest designers to bring their ideas to the numerous Cassina Sofas and Cassina Armchairs collections. These collaborations have reinforced the company’s objective to bring authenticity and quality to our homes. The Cassina furniture project is complemented by a production founded on precision and attention to detail, aimed at providing the best for its clients.
The style and tone of the collections exhibited by Sag80 in their Cassina Milano showroom, represent a model to be followed and admired, and the authority of the brand has been steadily accompanied by collaborations with important designers, creators of some of its most unique pieces, such as Le Corbusier’s LC Collection and Marco Zanuso’s 722 Woodline armchair. These are just some of the example collections and collaborations that have assuredly become part of design history.
Cassina Design: a story of design since 1927
Cassina was established in Meda, Lombardy, in 1927. Founders of the Italian company were brothers Cesare and Umberto Cassina, who, starting from their small design company soon managed to assert their position as leaders within the field of contemporary design.
In 1952, thanks to the Andrea Doria Project, Cassina exported the concept of ‘Design Made in Italy’ overseas. Through this contract Cassina was able to recover from the second post-war period by contributing decisively to the growing international reputation of Italian furniture design, which was just starting to emerge from obscurity. The reputation of Cassina Furniture was ensured by a deep understanding of the client’s needs, matched with the quality of the work meticulously executed down to the smallest detail; this is how Cassina’s managing director describes their modus operandi:
“Our philosophy is not to just provide our client with a component of interior design, but to also offer solutions to complex, logistical and technological issues. We didn’t want to concentrate on tasks that prioritised the mere structural realization of a product, but on projects that developed added value and profitability through the implementation of tailor-made designs and by collaborating with important architectural firms”.
In 1964 the “Great masters” collection was created, thanks to which Cassina Furniture promptly launched collaborations with all the most internationally renowned design labels. Leaders of the industry, such as Le Corbusier, Charlotte Perriand and Pierre Jeanneret, designed a number of Cassina products, which soon became some of the most iconic design pieces, such as the well-known LC4 chair.
Cassina Sofas and Cassina Armchairs: excellence in craftsmanship and artisanal beauty
Cassina Sofas are the result of 90 years of research dedicated to delivering the details, harmony and quality of artisanal work. These traditional elements, central to Cassina Sofas, are combined with a drive towards the avant-garde and an eye to the future and the innovations it holds. The internal structure of each sofa is manufactured with the most up-to-date engineering systems, to ensure an optimal posture and accompany every move and gesture.
The finishes are methodically implemented in all details, starting from the double-stitching contours that distinguish the entire Cassina Sofas range. The sofa coverings are designed to lightly embrace the body offering pleasant sensorial effects. Furthermore, every detail is meticulously developed to provide an overall pleasing and harmonious aesthetic effect. The last element of Cassina Sofas to be considered is their comfort: this, combined with all the other features listed above, is what turns these home furnishings into timeless and avant-garde products.
An example of the quality of Cassina Design products is the Maralunga sofa, a 1973 project by Vico Magistretti that was reintroduced by Cassina Milano in 2013 for their 40th anniversary. Maralunga has since become one of the most iconic sofas of Italian design and the source of inspiration for hundreds of interior designers.
One of the most recent Cassina products is the Super Beam Sofa System, designed by Patricia Urquiola in 2017. A sofa that presents itself as a product to be discovered: its various components can be arranged in a variety of different ways, including side table modules. The pronounced stitching of the upholstery recalls that of the Maralunga sofa, providing the Cassina Furniture range with a sense of continuation and familiarity.
The Cassina Armchairs range is just as unique: the collection includes some of the most iconic armchairs in the history of design, such as the LC4 by Le Corbusier and the Lady armchair by Zanuso. The Cassina Armchairs collection will never cease to surprise you!
